Baptisms

Baptisms are held following the 11:30am Mass on the first Sunday of the month.

To have your child baptized, first call the parish office to register for a class. These are held on the second Thursday of the month in Roncalli Elementary School, 7:00pm. Enter through the school’s main south door and turn left, then enter the library on your left.

Remember that godparents must be practicing Catholics, i.e. those who attend Mass each Sunday and can receive Holy Communion. The godfather must be a man and the godmother a woman; the godparents cannot be of the same sex.  If a godparent cannot be present at the baptism, a proxy must be selected beforehand. There can be up to two official witnesses to the baptism, and they do not need to be Catholic.

At the end of the class the parents of each child will meet privately with the priest and schedule the baptism. There is no fee for the class or the baptism, but donations are appreciated to offset the church’s costs (heating/cooling, janitorial, salaries, baptismal candles, etc.). Any gift intended for the priest must be marked “personal”.

If you are not a member of Sacred Heart Parish, your local pastor must send written permission for baptism at Sacred Heart. In this case you may do the preparation class at your home parish.
