In November, Sacred Heart Parish in Aberdeen will host members of the Sacred Heart Apostolate for a parish mission. The Sacred Heart Enthronement mission will focus on family transformation and will be held at the parish November 1-4, 2009.
The four-day mission will involve many groups in the parish, including clergy, parishioners, religious education program participants, and the Roncalli schools. Services will be held each night of the mission with the following themes: “Jesus Is Alive: More than Ever, We Need Jesus,” “Jesus Forgives and Forgets: Let the Transformation Begin,” “Opening Our Hearts and Homes to Jesus,” and “Building a Civilization of Love.” Each service will include prayer, music, and because of the focus on family life, much involvement of young people. Roncalli students and students involved in parish religious education programs will lead prayers, serve at the mission services, and take part in other activities.
Members of the parish and the school have been preparing for the mission for the past few months, recruiting volunteers, organizing activities and services, and leading prayers for its success.
Fr. Ed Pierce, pastor of Sacred Heart, is bringing the mission to the parish because, he said, “So often we can feel stressed out and helpless against the forces out to destroy the love and unity in our home and cause us so much heartache. This mission will show how we, the ordinary people of this world, definitely can do something about this culture of death.”
According to information from the Apostolate, the Sacred Heart Mission “is about the awareness of the living presence of Our Lord in the home where Jesus is the center of the family. The mission speaks about a way of life for individuals and families.” The purpose of the mission is “to help bring about a transformation of hearts by revitalizing faith and love in the home. Revitalized families will mean a revitalized parish.”
The mission will be led by Fr. William Gaffney, CSsR, a Redemptorist Missionary, and Gloria Anson, a Redemporist Lay Missionary, who will come from the Sacred Heart Apostolate from Syracuse, New York.
